Myles and I were invited to join our daughter-in-law’s family in Lake George, New York for a week’s vacation in July. Our son, Andrew and his wife, Vanessa were also going.
Since it doesn’t look like we’ll be flying anywhere this year because of COVID-19, we decided to use our camper and join them all in Lake George.
I had a lot to do to the camper to get it ready. It was very dirty from sitting under the trees at our house the last few years, and it seemed as though little critters had gotten very cozy inside. Yikes!
I’m going to hold myself accountable here because I don’t ever want to see what I saw inside the camper again.
I will be cleaning the camper at least once a month from here on out. There were a few mice nests inside the camper. I was sick to my stomach from the smell while cleaning up. I don’t think I need to go into the small details here because I want this post to be about our trip.
Just know, if you have a camper and little critters get inside, you will have a mess to clean up. Maybe I’ll write about this another time.
Our camper is a tow-behind twenty-six foot K-Z travel trailer that sleeps 6. She weighs ten thousand pounds without all of the luxuries we like to have while camping.
Since Andrew and Vanessa, and their two dogs would be traveling with us to Lake George, we decided to load our clothes, food, and other things inside the camper. This of course made it even heavier.
If you’ve read more of this blog, then you know that I am on a fitness journey. Not wanting to skip any workouts, I planned on doing the workouts while on vacation.
Being a Fitness Specialist, Vanessa wanted to stay on track as well, so we brought along our dumbbells to continue our workout schedule. Of course this added more weight to the camper!
You’re probably thinking…you’re on vacation, the workouts can wait. But Vanessa and I are committed to our fitness journey’s and didn’t want to skip any.
Now, I have the Bowflex dial weights, each weighing fifty-two and a half pounds. Vanessa brought two sets of dumbbells weighing a total of about seventy pounds. The poor camper! Not to mention the strain on our truck. But we arrived in Lake George safely.
We stayed at King Phillip’s Campground right in Lake George, New York. It’s about a five minute drive to the lake itself and also all of the restaurants, bars, and shops along the waterfront.
King Phillip’s Campground is a very nice place to camp. It seems as though most of the sites are occupied by seasonal campers. We were put in a section that had a few transit sites.
The sites are all pretty level and very clean. I was very impressed by this because I’ve never seen a campsite so well maintained. It made our stay that much more enjoyable.
The weather was perfect the entire week we were in Lake George giving us the opportunity to get out and enjoy a couple of excursions.
We spent our first night at the campground with a visit from Vanessa’s parents.
The next day Vanessa and I did our workout, with not so sneaky gawkers watching us. They probably thought we were crazy. But it was fun to workout in the woods. It was something different for a change.
We had a delicious breakfast cooked each morning by Andrew and then went about our days.
The two excursions we took advantage of was a boat rental for the entire family to cruise around Lake George, and the other was parasailing.
The day of the boat rental was HOT, so I was very happy we would be on the water. Andrew arranged the rental and pick up. We had 15 people and 2 dogs on a pontoon boat.
This pontoon boat was the perfect size and big enough for all of us to be comfortable. We spent the entire day on the lake and had a great time.
The parasailing excursion was incredible! This being my first experience had me a little nervous. It was Vanessa’s second time parasailing.
The company we used was Pinky’s Parasailing. They are located right on the waterfront and are very friendly and professional. Masks were mandatory while boarding the boat, but once on the boat we were able to remove them.
Vanessa and I were joined by seven other people for this parasailing experience. We all boarded a dingy that took us out onto the lake to the boat we would be sailing with.
I thought this was kind of strange but it made sense afterwards. In order to make things easier and more feasible for the company, the dingy is used to transport guests out to the sailing boat to save time.
As the dingy captain drove us to the sailing boat, he explained how we would move from one boat to the other. It’s funny how some people just don’t listen to direction. We were told not to stand while boarding the other boat, yet some stood up and stepped over.
This didn’t happen just once. Both groups had a few people that didn’t listen. I’m sure this happens all the time. At least no one was injured.
Vanessa and I were the last guests in our group to go up into the air. Thinking I would be nervous, I was actually very calm. I was able to get this short video of our experience.
I would definitely go parasailing again and when that happens, I will be taking more video.
Lake George is a great place to visit with the entire family. There is a lot to do for all ages.

Of course things are very different right now because of COVID-19, but you can still have a great time in Lake George.
Our experience was pretty good considering all of the new “rules”. Wearing a mask when entering any place of business is mandatory. Inside restaurants, you can remove the mask once you are seated at your table.
About half of the people walking around the town wore their masks, the others didn’t. We didn’t experience any negativity while out and about, making our vacation relaxing and fun.
All in all we had a great time and the “new rules” did not discourage us at all.
